, by Irondale native Fannie Flagg, is loosely based around the town and the landmark Irondale Cafe, known as The WhistleStop Cafe in the book & film. Irondale is also the location of Catholic radio/television broadcaster EWTN. It is also the home of famed Miami Herald sports writer Joseph Goodman.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.0 square miles (23.3 km²), of which, 9.0 square miles (23.2 km²) of it is land and 0.11% is water.
