It is the site of the Santa Anita Park racetrack and home to the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. , the city had a total population of 53,054. Arcadia is located northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The city is bordered by six communities: Pasadena, Sierra Madre, El Monte, Irwindale, Monrovia, and Temple City.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 28.8 km² (11.1 mi²). 28.4 km² (11.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (1.08%) is water.
