Corning hosts a beautiful downtown intermodal station, opened in 1998, that hosts dedicated Amtrak Thruway Motorcoaches linking to Amtrak California Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains at Sacramento, California and the county's local bus system TRAX. It's the city with the most I-5 traveler services south of Red Bluff and north of Woodland.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.9 square miles (7.5 km²), all of it land.
