) is a city in Amador County, California, United States. The population was 7,129 at the 2000 census. Once known as "Bed-Bug" and "Freeze Out," Ione was an important supply center on the main road to the Mother Lode and Southern Mines.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.4 km² (4.8 sq mi). 4.7 square miles (12.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.63%) is water.
