Newtown is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 25,031 at the 2000 census. Newtown was founded in 1705 and incorporated in 1711.

Fairfield County's only state prison, Garner Correctional Institution, is located on Nunnawauk Road

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 60.38 square miles (153.0 km²), of which, 57.8 square miles (149.6 km²) of it is land and 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²) of it (2.22%) is water.

Newtown is the state's fifth largest town in area and is bordered by Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Easton, Monroe, Oxford, Redding and Southbury.
