According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 32.1 square miles (83.0 km²), of which, 31.5 square miles (81.6 km²) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it (1.75%) is water.
Redding is rural compared to the towns along the Golden Coast. Although Redding boasts the wealth that is identified with Fairfield County, it is a more secluded option for home ownership. As such, real estate prices have remained at a premium for the last couple years. It borders the towns of Bethel, Danbury, Easton, Newtown, Ridgefield, Wilton and Weston.
