is village of the town of Newtown, Connecticut. Sandy Hook borders the Botsford section of town, Newtown borough, and the town of Southbury. Church Hill Road services both Newtown and Sandy Hook. The two areas are separated by Interstate 84. Sandy Hook was founded in 1711.
The village of Sandy Hook includes the communities of Berkshire, Riverside, Walnut Tree Hill, and Zoar.
Within a year after Newtown was settled, some of its proprietors began moving away from the central village and to some of their larger parcels, and several proprietors with land in the same area tended to move out together to reduce isolation. Sandy Hook was one of the first of the outlying areas settled. Colonists found the Potatuck River at Sandy Hook allowed for the setting up of saw and grist mills. The neighborhood would not grow dramatically until the industrialization of the mid 19th century.
Sandy Hook has been known for years to be the "more affordable" section of Newtown. Over the last 10 years, that statement is no longer true as there have been many new homes have been built and roads constructed to accommodate these homes. As well as the preservation of many antique homes which have old barns that have been converted to guest houses. Sandy Hook is also very conveinent to shops, restaurants, schools, and the highways. Unlike most of Newtown which has become a major draw to the area.
