Charming and comfortable four-year-old cottage with large covered lanai on one acre in Paradise. Wake up to a view of majestic Mauna Kea, walk six blocks to the ocean where you can spot sea turtles and pods of dolphins and whales. Or enjoy Paradise from your home, among the bananas and the flowers, picking some black raspberries for your morning cereal or reading, working, dancing and entertaining on your spacious lanai.
This cottage is 480 sq ft, with a 280 sq. ft. lanai. The cottage is open-beamed with five large windows (+2 small) and a sliding glass door in back, has kitchen, living and working areas, walk-in closet which semi- encloses the sleeping area, bath/shower, ceiling fan, covered outside laundry, also an outside platform for camping or yoga. The lanai is where my guests and I spend over half of our time, taking full advantage of Hawaii s perfect temperatures even when it s too hot or wet to be outside. There is also a small lanai off the slider which is perfect for star gazing.
The construction is sturdy and fully permitted. I had considerable interest in this house as a vacation rental and found that it was easy to find people who wanted to rent it while I was gone. This has been my primary residence, and truly it's so pleasant and beautiful here that I haven't often wanted to leave home . . . . Unless it's to go to the warm pond or to do some snorkling or to hear some music in Hilo.
Many plantings include citrus, lychee, longan, bananas, papaya, coffee, neem, tea tree, ti, mango, coconut palms, ornamental palms, pineapples, many ornamentals including orchids, jasmine and tropical rhododendrons, established garden spaces with organic dirt (dirt is quite a premium in this area of volcanic ground) and compost piles.
Also rock piles with many large rocks for making walls and other garden beds. 10,500 gallon painted aluminum catchment for ample water for both the house and the gardens.
I have never used Roundup or other poison on the land and have used organic fertilizer whenever possible. I did not "rip" the land to flatten it so it maintains it's natural lava topography and so has several vistas as well as good potential for further farming and permaculture. A great opportunity in a true paradise.
