is a town in Franklin County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 1,810 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area.
, because its only purpose was that of a road between towns. Road Town was officially incorporated as Shutesbury in 1761. The town was renamed in honor of Samuel Shute, former governor. Shutesbury has been known as a lumbering town for the past 200 years and companies are still interested in lumbering in Shutesbury.
On the evening of December 11, 2008, there was an large storm coating all the trees with a 1/2 inch think layer of ice. Tree limbs came crashing down on the power lines, houses, cars and all other things. Power was out in Shutesbury for up to a week for most people and the state of Massachusetts declared a state of emergency Friday morning. The estimated cost of cleaning up ranged from $50,000-$100,000
