Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Features:
This home is equipped with a central air handler, high efficiency (95%+) gas furnace, a Honeywell electrostatic air cleaner for returning air, and an AprilAir power humidifier that together automatically maintain the home s air temperature, humidity, and air quality. A plenum chamber above the furnace houses the A coil that cools the circulating air with an outdoor heat pump in the summer and provides the more efficient heat-pump heating in the cooler seasons until the outside air temperature drops to the preset point where the gas furnace become the more cost-effective source of heat. The large eighty gallon gas hot water heater is adjacent to the furnace and vents to the cinder block chimney.
Energy Conservation Features:
The orginal wood cedar siding on all exterior walls is covered with additional taped insulated sheathing and then covered by steel siding with insulated panels inserted behind the siding to provide side walls with an R value of 20. The depth of the blown-in attic insulation was increased to provide a ceiling R value of 40. This combination significantly reduces heating costs in the winter and cooling costs in the summer. Although the blown-in insulation over the unheated garage was increased a lessor amount, the large, south-facing windows in the garage capture flooding sunlight and direct solar heating warms the garage to moderate temperatures even during below freezing periods.
