) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, U.S., and a hamlet of the Town of Islip. The population was 31,950 at the 2000 census.
Central Islip is located at 40° 47' 3" North, 73° 11' 57" West (40.784194, -73.199062). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.3 square miles (18.8 km
), all land. Its schools are the Early Childhood Center, Anthony Alfano School, Andrew T. Morrow Elementary, Francis J. O'Neill Elementary, Marguerite Mulvey Elementary, Cordello Ave. Elementary, Mulligan Intermediate School, Ralph G. Reed Middle School, and Central Islip Senior High School. There is also a private Catholic School, St. John of God, located within the town, Our Lady of Providence Regional School. Also, Central Islip is home to NYIT (New York Institute of Technology), and Touro Law School, located next to the local Supreme Court building. As of 2007, the Islip Civic Council announced that Central Islip's Downtown area will be renovated. Central Islip is a boom-town.
