is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,873 at the 2000 census. The town is named after Stephen Van Rensselaer. The town is in the southeast corner of the county. According to a sign on the southern border of Stephentown, the town claims to be the only Stephentown on Earth.
Stephentown was first settled around 1765, the same year Berlin was first settled. The town was formed on March 29, 1784 from the Rensselaerwyck Manor.
The Stephentown pioneers were from New England, primarily Rhode Island and Connecticut, and arrived from the southeast.
