Local city information for Maple Valley, WA

Maple Valley is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 14,209 at the 2000 census.

Maple Valley was officially incorporated in 1997. The Maple Valley Historical Society has the best record of Maple Valley's past and artifacts (including Hobart, Taylor, and Maple Valley). Maple Valley's name was originally Vine Maple Valley. The name was pulled from a hat, but the Post Office removed the "Vine" because it was too long. According to the Washington Place Names database, the name Maple Valley was chosen by George Ames in 1888, not for the maples trees of the area but for the Maple family, who had settled on the Duwamish River before the Denny Party arived at Alki Point.

The city's school district is called Tahoma (Coming from Taylor Creek, Hobart and Maple Valley). The original Tahoma High School was built in 1926.
